The Department of Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Director of Perinatal Pathology. The position will be based at Magee Womens Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and will also participate in the Division of Pediatric Pathology, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (CHP). Magee Women's Hospital (MWH) is a 335 bed tertiary care facility, the largest provider of female health care in western Pennsylvania, and serves the 22 hospitals of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. With an annual rate of 11,000 deliveries, service responsibilities at Magee Women's Hospital include analysis of Products of Conception, Placental Pathology and Perinatal Autopsies. Pathology residents and clinical fellows rotate through the service and receive teaching on perinatal pathology. There is a strong interaction between this position and multiple clinical groups at MWH, especially Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Genetics. Ample opportunities for research are available at the Magee Women's Research Institute. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is one of the 10 best Pediatric Hospitals in the country. The Department of Pathology at CHP has approximately 11,000 Surgical Pathology accessions, 2,000 cytological specimens and 40 pediatric autopsies per year. The Department is currently staffed by six faculty members, in addition to subspecialty support rendered by members of other divisions in the Department of Pathology of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Our material ranges from the routine examples of pediatric diseases to cases of the highest complexity of modern medicine. The Department has an ACGME accredited fellowship program in Pediatric Pathology, and we emphasize academic work with the fellows, with mentoring opportunities for the Faculty. Our facilities count with 315 pediatric beds and over 13,000 admissions per year. The John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center is a 300,000 square-foot-state-of-the-art facility in our campus, housing a large group of researchers and academic Departments performing world-class research. Candidates must have an MD degree or equivalent, and be board-certified in AP/CP or AP. Preference will be given to candidates who completed formal training in an ACGME accredited Pediatric Pathology Fellowship program and are either Board Certified or eligible for special certification in Pediatric Pathology.
