Henry Crown and Company, a privately held family office located in downtown Chicago, is looking for a full-time Processing Archivist to join our team. The Processing Archivist will have direct contact with 3rd and 4th generation family members. This position will require communication across internal departments (philanthropy, family services, etc.) as well as with third-party external resources. The Processing Archivist will report directly to the Senior Archivist and also provide support to the Director of Family Services. The duties are specified by the needs of the Senior Archivist.
About the Archives
The Crown Family Archives serve as the final repository for the historical records of the extended Crown family and their related businesses and philanthropies. Its primary purpose is to document the Crown’s history and to provide source material for family members and staff. The archives are closed to the public and primarily serve internal users.
Areas of Responsibility
The Processing Archivist will work closely with the Senior Archivist to determine priorities and address the archival processing backlog by taking inventory, appraising, arranging, describing and cataloging collections according to professional standards and best practices. The Processing Archivist will also scan photos and documents as needed. The Processing Archivist will work closely with the Senior Archivist to promote access to the digital collection of archival materials within the family.

Skills and Abilities
Understanding of the principles of arrangement and description of archival collections and knowledge of archival best practices
Ability to identify and address preservation issues for analog and digital materials
Excellent computer and technical skills and ability to learn new technologies
Experience with Microsoft office
Experience with database or cataloging software
Experience with scanning equipment and software
Minimum Education and Experience Required
Graduate degree in Library Science or History with a concentration in archives required
Minimum of 1 year of archiving experience preferred (internships, practicums and volunteer experience will be taken into consideration)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong relationship management and listening skills
Confidentiality, discretion and integrity
Exhibits high degree of professionalism and maturity
Ability to set priorities, manage work, and meet deadlines independently and collaboratively
