The Atlanta Speech School is currently seeking an exceptional leader to be the Director of our Katherine Hamm Center. The Hamm Center is for children from birth to 5 years old who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) and their families. The mission of the Speech School is to help each person develop his or her full potential through language and literacy. To this end, the Director will be responsible for leading and supporting an extraordinary team of highly-trained and motivated professionals who are intensely focused upon ensuring that each Hamm Center child and every DHH child in the State of Georgia is on a path to reading proficiency by the end of third grade. To accomplish this objective, Hamm Center professionals seek to maximize children’s brain development by ensuring timely and effective access to services for all families. The Hamm Center model focuses on an essential partnership with each child’s family as they learn to provide the foundation of language to their infants and toddlers.
The Director of the Hamm Center will join the Speech School staff and partners from across the state in a national movement dedicated to radically changing outcomes for children who are DHH, regardless of preferred modality. The Director will be charged with working closely with the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health and the state EHDI Coordinator, the co-chairs of Georgia Pathway to Language and Literacy (the Director of the State Schools for the Deaf and the Speech School’s Executive Director), and numerous others to implement a public health and early education system that prevents disabilities by ensuring access to services for all families. The Director will work to create lasting systems change relative to (1) access to services, (2) urgent diagnosis and enrollment into intervention, and (3) family education content required to prevent the human-made language disorder of illiteracy, rather than to remediate a physical “disability” of deafness or hearing loss.
The Hamm Center Director is a member of the Speech School’s Leadership Team that fosters and facilitates the School’s highly intentional collective efforts to have the greatest impact possible on each child we serve and all young children in our state. The Director reports to the Chief Academic Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the development of goals and policies pertaining to the Hamm Center
- Ensures the provision of specialized and differentiated services in the areas of Audiology, Auditory Verbal therapy, tele-therapy, and early intervention
- Ensures programmatic structure that engages and empowers parents as the key facilitators of their children’s language
- Works collaboratively with state and national leaders to achieve the goal of language and reading proficiency for all children who are DHH
- Retains, attracts, and recruits highly skilled and motivated staff
- Provides professional development, coaching, and evaluation for staff to continue to advance evidence-based practices and maximize outcomes for children
- Conducts ongoing program evaluation and identification of needs
- Manages budget and seeks opportunities to increase access to services and financial resources
- Guides strategic planning and its implementation
- Collaborates with the Chief Academic Officer and Director of Research and Innovation in managing clinical research programs
- Manages the assessment and program evaluation process to maximize outcomes for children
- Collaborates with other Directors within the Atlanta Speech School to utilize most effectively the collective resources of the School
