The University of Alabama Libraries is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual for the position of Processing Archivist. This is a one-year renewable appointment reporting to the Archival Access Coordinator in Special Collections and University Archives and working collaboratively in an archival team of 3 archivists and 2 librarians, and appropriate units in the Libraries. This position supports access to and preservation of the Libraries’ rare and unique resources, including manuscript collections, through physical arrangement and intellectual description. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: processing manuscript collections, including physical arrangement of varied formats of materials and creation of finding aids and other inventories; maintaining the department’s archival data management system; accessioning collections; management of authorities and rights; screening for potentially sensitive materials; applying preservation strategies; providing reference service; and keeping abreast of current issues and trends in arrangement, description, and preservation of manuscript collections.
SALARY/BENEFITS: Non-tenure track renewable appointment. Salary is $45,000-$50,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Strong benefits including professional development support and tuition fee waiver.
