The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is involved with teaching, patient care, and research in the areas of human reproduction. The department also provides primary and preventive health care for women.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an outstanding opportunity for a part time, temporary Research Study Assistant in the Family Planning Division. The Family Planning Division provides clinical care and conducts research on contraceptive methods, abortion and miscarriage. The Research Study Assistant will recruit subjects, and coordinate protocols for research studies conducted at the University of Washington Family Planning Division. They will work closely with the Principal Investigators, clinical staff, and research staff to perform duties as assigned. They will maintain regulatory compliance for the conduct of Human Subjects approved protocols. The Family Planning Division has two current projects that need assistance: an implementation study looking at the feasibility of providing contraceptive services at the Syringe Exchange Program in Downtown Seattle, and a Randomized Controlled Trial assessing the use of video for counseling women on IUDs. This position may also serve other projects within the division as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The job duties for this position include:
Recruit and screen research subjects for multiple ongoing studies investigating areas of Family Planning
Perform informed consent process with study participants
Coordinate and schedule research subject study visits
Perform research subject study visits with training and supervision including: interviews, focus groups and administering surveys either in person, online or over the phone
Review subjects' medical record to extract specific information and complete study questionnaire for each subject
Record subject enrollment numbers and other data for study records
Follow up with study participants in person and over the phone
Attend Family Planning division and research staff meetings as needed
Assist in REDCap database creation and maintenance
Inventory and order study supplies
Assist in orientation of new study participants
Answer participant questions about the study protocol and procedures; notify appropriate staff of study problems or complications reported by subjects
Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience.
Bachelor or Associate degree in social, behavioral, health or biomedical sciences OR two years of college coursework in these fields, OR at least 2 years' experience working in human subjects research
Spanish speaking preferred
Demonstrated interest in reproductive health
Commitment to reproductive justice and abortion access
Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with individuals from marginalized communities
Attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to execute complex tasks on time with little to no supervision
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employee must have reliable transportation and ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed. Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
