The Editorial Producer for Virginia Tech News fulfills an important role in the daily flow of news and information to the Virginia Tech homepage, Virginia Tech News, the Daily Email, Weekly Student Email, and social media. This person will work closely with University Relations leadership and communications directors throughout Virginia Tech to write and edit articles, press releases, campus notices, and event listings that fulfill strategic objectives and boost interest and engagement.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, writing or related discipline, or Master's degree. A portfolio of work that exhibits strong writing and editing skills with professional experience as a writer, reporter, or communicator. Thorough understanding of AP style. Keen attention to detail. Intermediate-level skill and understanding of HTML and website management. Experience working on email communications (writing, editing, or distribution). Solid news judgment and an ability to take initiative when needed. Experience working with graphic editing software, such as Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator. Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, exercise discretionary actions, and work on daily deadlines.
Experience managing social media platforms. Knowledge of content management systems.
