| CCE of Rensselaer County is seeking a full time 35 hours per week qualified and experienced Educator who is primarily responsible for program delivery in the area of agriculture (animal science, agriscience and plant science) for adults and 4-H youth in Rensselaer County. The target audience includes school aged youth in Rensselaer County with ongoing outreach to remote, urban and limited resource populations. The educator works as part of a team, collaborating with Association, regional and statewide professional staff and volunteers in the areas of agriculture and 4-H youth development. |
The educator receives direct supervision from the Association Team Leader who has 4-H programmatic oversight. The position has programmatic oversight for community based agriculture from the Association Executive Director.

- Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in an agriculture, animal or plant science or related field plus experience relevant the role of the position. Associate's degree in a related agriculture field and at least 2 years related work or volunteer experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- Ability to teach evidence-based agricultural education and curricula to participants and work with diverse audiences of all ages.
- Proficiency in the use of modern electronic technology and software (e.g., video, audio, computers, texting, Microsoft Office Programs, social media, internet and database software, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
- Ability to read and write in English.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Delivery - 70%
- Deliver educational programs related to production agriculture as well as youth agriculture focusing on reinforcing and development of life skills to youth, adults and families. Youth will be reached through 4-H clubs, community programs and in coordination with schools, afterschool programs and other community avenues as appropriate. Adult participants will be found throughout the county on working farms, startup farms and part-time producers.
- Utilize existing evidence-based or approved curricula and support materials to provide accurate agricultural education.
- Teach the existing educational program as defined.
- May occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver educational program.
- Serve as subject matter resource in discipline; provide standard responses. May assist in providing moderately complex nonstandard responses.
- Under the existing program parameters, observe participants and provide positive feedback in an effort to encourage adoption of new practices and/or skills.
- Meets or exceeds targeted program delivery goals assigned by the Supervisor.
- Assist the Supervisor to help ensure program delivery is within the Plan of Work as designated by the program and funder requirements.
- Utilize motivational communication and teaching strategies in working with all participants.
- Utilize established program outline; provide individualized education and development of farm plans that result in improved business and farm efficiencies as well as youth skill building.
- Foster acceptance of program, methods and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
- Provide educational program efforts via mass media (including social and print media).
- Provide special educational efforts as needed and is appropriate in the community.
- Maintain a strong, supportive, and professional relationship with program participants and have the ability to communicate with participants on a wide range of agricultural issues as part of program delivery.
- Participate in outreach activities, collaborate with other organizations to help ensure that program participants have access to other appropriate community services (such as but not limited to National Resources Conservation Services ("NRCS"), Soil and Water Conservation Services and Farm Service Agency). Make referrals to appropriate partners internally and externally as needed.
- Represent CCE to the public, community leaders, government officials and Cornell University in a professional manner.
- May be involved in multidisciplinary team efforts to deliver program.
- Utilize a variety of proven educational methodologies.
- May assist in teaching innovative educational programs.
- May assist in multi-association team efforts to deliver program.
- May assist in providing moderately complex nonstandard responses.
Program Evaluation - 5%
- Interact with program participants, advisory committees, Cornell program specialists and faculty, county and community leaders to obtain evaluation data for programs.
- Implement program evaluation as designed.
- Based on established parameters, provide program evaluation data to the program supervisor, assist in data analysis and assist in making recommendations to supervisors for strengthening and improving programs.
Direction - 5%
- May provide low-complexity administrative tasks to plan the educational program.
- May provide delivery feasibility details as input to program leaders to assist in planning the delivery of established agricultural educational program goals.
- Provide input in planning the structure of delivering agricultural educational programs via various methods.
Management - 5%
- Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the agricultural programming in Rensselaer County utilizing appropriate policies and procedures with guidance from the Supervisor.
- Give guidance to volunteers and fellow staff about agricultural programming goals and delivery methods.
- Serves as the primary staff contact for agricultural programming for CCE of Rensselaer County. Collaborates with Supervisor on the management of the program within the Association.
- Assist with 4-H volunteer recruitment and involvement.
- Provide guidance to 4-H volunteers and staff, including those performing similar work.
Coordination/Operation - 10%
- Maintain record of participants, complete reports, and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process.
- Recruit program participants and 4-H club leaders.
- Complete necessary written documentation as required by programs and funders.
- Submit program related expense receipts for recording.
- Organize a weekly program schedule to accommodate needs of participants and the Association.
- On a frequent basis transports self, also carrying program materials and resources to participant farms and additional community based settings.
- May assist in the development of marketing materials for educational events
- Assist supervisor with public awareness in the form of impact statements, articles for progress/ annual reports, or news releases.
- Maintain strong communication with the Capital Area Agriculture and Horticulture Team as well as the Eastern New York Commercial Horticulture Program in order to convey participant needs throughout the county.
- Maintain a strong network of peers working in other community agencies and programs with the goal of connecting participant families with the educational and other resources they need in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding all program participants.
- Perform routine data collection utilized by the program.
Professional Improvement- 5%
- In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
- Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
