Reporting to the Associate Dean, Finance and Administration, the Campus Operations Manager oversee the day-to-day campus facility operations at SON leased and owned buildings, including comfort, safety, and function.
The mission of the SON is to improve the health of individuals and diverse communities locally and globally through leadership and excellence in nursing education, research, practice, and service.
In collaboration with the Associate Dean, formulate long and short-term campus facilities goals and objectives for student and faculty services and for campus center management, in coordination with administrative and academic department heads. Identify equipment and furniture needs for classrooms, offices, study areas, student and faculty lounges and coordinate with JHSON departments and others to respond to those needs, including assisting with inventory, identifying and/or repairing broken or damaged equipment and/or identification of new needs. Take the lead on campus based special projects such as office relocations, vendor services, technical support, and build-outs and remodeling, including a complex multimillion dollar planned 28,000 gsf renovation and adjacent 45,000 gsf addition to the Pinkard building. Includes, collaboration with administrative and academic departments to develop sound understanding of needs; budget development and management; working closely with architects, builders and specialty construction staff; office furniture decisions and negotiations; planning and coordinating moves; and coordinating all work to ensure deadlines are met, with staff and faculty safety a priority, and minimal disruption.
Provide leadership and strategic oversight in maintaining safe, secure, and ADA compliance classroom and other learning facilities and for scheduling usage in a way that maximizes resources and aligns programmatic needs and emphases.
Implement short and long term plans and programs for campus center services, infrastructure, and facilities management; identifies and budgets necessary resources; ensure safe, secure, appropriately appointed classroom and other learning facilities.
Evaluate, revise, formulate, implement and disseminate policies and procedures for campus services, including but not limited to student services, faculty services, and course scheduling, operations and facility management. Manage maintenance and repair issues and problems for JHSON, analyzing ways to reduce costs and increase efficiencies. Monitor status of service and repair requests for JHSON, ensuring timely response and resolution. Manage telecom requests and changes for JHSON. Maintain key control policies, procedures, and adherence. Authorize and administer card access for students, staff and faculty for JHSON. Build and maintain SON Campus information website and portal.
Provide leadership and guidance including development and implementation of policies and procedures; day to day hands-on management of the operations of the SON campus and the associated staff, ensuring that a cohesive team effort is applied to campus operations.
Initiate, research, recommend and implement enhancements, registration, facilities management, supply management, copier services, mail services and other needs in collaboration with primary users and stakeholders.
Collaborate and advise on the course scheduling process to ensure optimal space utilization, including advising special events scheduling for opportunities for available classroom/common space rentals/use by other JHU entitles and non-JHU organizations.
Develop departmental orientation and ensure implementation and identify on-going training needs to ensure effective efficient service across all areas.
Develop and maintain extensive collaborative and cooperative relationships with a wide array of leadership, academic, professional and administrative individuals and units within the school, university, and hospital.
Serve on and actively participate in committees at the school and university level which deal in student and faculty services issues, facilities management, crisis management and response planning, and sustainability.
Remain current on policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to admissions, general financial aid, registration, transfer credit, evaluation, course and degree requirements, graduation requirements, and other student services.
Financial and Resource Management:
Reconcile accounts and take appropriate action to remedy any problems. Develop and prepare regular reports on the budget and status of accounts and analyzes trends and patterns for the Associate Deans. Maintain strict adherence to approved project budget allocations, seeking supervisor approval for change orders and resource allocations changes. Pay vendors, negotiation of contracts, service agreements; identify opportunities for centralized purchasing, leasing and service agreements to increase efficiency; increase buyer power to achieve economies of scale and paying particular attention to Hopkins Local initiatives.
In partnership with the Associate Dean, Finance and Administration, coordinate weather and other center emergency closings and schedule adjustments through school wide and campus based communication.
Develop the Crisis Management Plan appropriate communication and preparedness planning. The Crisis Management Response plans emergency notification procedures. Plans include instructions for emergency evacuation of students, faculty and staff with disabilities. Collaborate with leadership across the East Baltimore and Unified Command structure and with colleagues and peers across the university to share best practice. Integrate process for energy efficiency and sustainability facilities operations with University goals to achieve a carbon-neutral status in the coming years. Take the lead in implementing campus response to emergency situations with University officials and others. Serve on various School and University wide councils and committees related to campus centers and student services, specifically on initiatives related to the environment and sustainability.
