Department: Rice Online
The Managing Director is responsible for organizing the marketing, data analysis and production arms of Rice Online learning in a robust and effective product cycle. The Director's job is to synthesize all information from the three components of the unit for presentation to the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, to work with the VP to execute the vision for the unit, to analyze and report on how the unit works, and to ensure optimal quality standards, effective workflow process, and workplace standards for the unit.
The Managing Director reports to the Vice President, Strategic Initiatives and Digital Education and works with the Rice Online Data Analyst and the Marketing & Communications Manager to identify program priorities and schedule production timelines accordingly.
In addition to being responsible for organizing the unit's data analysis and marketing components, the Managing Director, in collaboration with the Team Lead and others, is responsible for managing Rice Online staff, production timelines and deliverables for course production. S/he will establish and implement standard production processes and workflows for all Production Team members, and will work with the Team Lead, Project Managers and Video Team to assign production resources. The Managing Director is also responsible for those consultants hired, as needed, for instructional design.
In addition to delivering courses according to schedule, the Managing Director is responsible for ensuring quality across courses. S/he will oversee the clear education technology and design guidelines for Project Managers and Course Developers to implement. The Managing Director will also oversee all technical aspects of learning platforms and learning management systems, maintaining and managing the day-to-day contact with platform providers. S/he will maintain accessibility standards and will have accessibility oversight for all platforms.
Finally, the Managing Director will partner with the Office of the Registrar, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and the Office of Information Technology as needed to ensure university best practices are incorporated into the running of the program. S/he will meet with faculty and instructors regularly to ensure optimal course development.
In addition to delivering courses according to schedule, the Managing Director is responsible for ensuring brand consistency and quality across courses. S/he will provide education technology and instructional design consulting for courses as needed, and will develop clear ed tech and design guidelines for Project Managers to implement.
The Managing Director will oversee all technical aspects of learning platforms and learning management systems, maintaining and managing the day-to-day contact with platform providers. S/he will maintain accessibility standards and will have accessibility oversight for all platforms.
The Managing Director oversees any grant-writing efforts for the program, and works with the VP SIDE to identify and implement digital education innovations for existing curriculum.
