Assists in the operation and maintenance of the assigned Central Heating Station equipment. Assists and follows directives of the Engineer on watch in the performance of assigned duties. Performs maintenance and repairs on all machinery, equipment, instruments and controls located at the Central Heating Station and in all remote locations that are under the jurisdiction of Division 7, Heat Plant. Keeps clean (including painting) all floors, machinery and equipment located at the Central Heating Station and remote locations. Maintains clean work area and/or job site upon completion of assignment. Takes alarm summaries on control and monitoring panels every hour and submits alarm reports to the Engineer on watch. Takes trouble calls, makes out reports and notifies proper person. Takes water samples analysis, and treats water as found necessary. Observes safety rules and precautions. Orders materials and supplies as required. Reads and interprets plans, blueprints, sketches and specifications. Trains and directs lower grade employees assigned to projects. Performs assignments which may include scheduled overtime. Responsible to respond to overtime work on recall, which may include unscheduled and emergency recall situations, during off hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs related duties as required.
Requires a High School education or equivalency required. Requires a City of Providence Boiler Operators License and possession of a valid motor vehicle operatorâ??s license. Three yearâ??s full time work experience in a high pressure and heating power plant and/or with similar machinery and equipment. Overall knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance, including the ability to skillfully apply the same. Must be able to follow standard procedures, read and understand blueprints. Must be physically able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Must have the physical ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs throughout the duration of the shift. Ability to climb and work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and staging heights up to 100 feet. Ability to meet and effectively deal with others in the University community.
