The Director of Strategic Initiatives & Public Policy will partner with the Executive Director to lead the Network’s strategic response work. S/he will engage in the planning, organizing and implementation of the Network’s policy and advocacy agendas in all areas including legislative, healthcare, legal, and faith-based initiatives.
Research and develop policy, advocacy and strategic initiatives in the area of domestic violence and prevention.
Develop and implement the Network’s legislative agenda and initiate legislative action in conjunction with the membership, staff and Executive Director.
Represent the Network in public policy, advocacy and strategic initiatives.
Participate in committees, commissions and task force work as needed and assigned.
Respond to emerging social and public policy issues that impact the Network’s mission.
Build partnerships and develop strategies to work across disciplines to promote collaborations that improve the community’s response to domestic violence.
Conduct analyses of programs and methodologies to promote effective cross-collaborative efforts to respond to domestic violence.
Build the skills and capacity of Network members to effectively engage and participate in cross-sector collaborations and the Network’s strategic response agenda including training and technical assistance to members on public policy, advocacy and legislative issues.
Organize and present testimony to legislative committees and governmental agencies as required.
Develop a communication plan to pro-actively engage with traditional and online media (op-ed pieces, letters to the editor, blog entries, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) to convey the Network’s policy agenda to the public
Perform other duties as may be necessary or assigned by the Executive Director
Knowledge of domestic violence and/or women’s issues
Strong commitment to social justice and ability to create and manage social change efforts
Prior legislative and/or policy experience
Strong project management, community organization, and program development skills
Strong writing and platform skills for both online and traditional media
Strong negotiating, presentation and networking skills
Practice in appropriate conflict resolution methods leading to positive solutions
Licenses/Certification – None required
Computer and software knowledge – PC literate with strong skills and experience in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and databases required. Proficiency desired in all social media platforms - Twitter, Facebook, etc.
