Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Director of Communications, the incumbent will have managerial oversight and strategic direction for the conceptualization, writing, editing and production of all electronic content and printed publications pertaining to the activities of the Earth Institute (EI) and collaborative units and programs. Collaborates with EI and its Centers, attends events, researches issues, conducts interviews to generate and edit content through different mediums including, blog, videos, photos, main EI site, multimedia, etc. Works closely with External Relations Manager on social media projects to advance communications strategy. Assists Science Writer when needed to produce and disseminate information to press and respond to inquiries. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the strategy and positioning of electronic content and publications with the Communications Director, Design Director, and various project leaders at Centers and Programs throughout EI. He/she will manage all electronic content and publication projects including timeline and deliverables for all participants in the production of electronic content and publications, including content development from initiation to completion. Responsible for quality control of all electronic content and publications. Enforces deadlines and oversees delivery of product to client or venue. Provides content and copy editing for both print publications and electronic content. Develops and tracks budgets for all printed publication projects, ensuring cost efficiency at all levels. Hires and provides direct oversight of consultants/ freelancers related to writing, editing and production of electronic content and printed publications. All other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications, EI.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 4 years publications management and writing/editing experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and should have strong web navigation skills and understand basic database access/usage. The incumbent should also exhibit strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by a proven record of collaborating/leading across multiple levels in an organization. Strong communication and teamwork skills required. Experience delivering presentations to senior management. Ability to understand and interpret scientific and development data required. Strong communication and negotiation skills.
