Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Recruitment and Organizational Learning has a key role in overseeing human resources management in the University Libraries and advancing organizational development and learning. The position will report to the Associate Dean for Resource Management. The position will have a lead role in recruiting and on-boarding of librarians. The Director will provide professional support to librarian search committees and ensure compliance with institutional procedures. The position will also oversee staff recruitment and hiring. The Director will advise supervisors about University human resources policies and procedures and will work with the Human Resources Generalist assigned to the University Libraries. The position will also coordinate annual performance review processes for the Libraries. The incumbent will also be encouraged to develop expertise in employee relations and employment discrimination law.
Responsibilities also include coordinating with the Libraries' Training Committee to advance training and create learning opportunities for librarians and staff. The Director will oversee the Libraries training budget. The position will identify and coordinate training opportunities and providers, and prepare an annual report on training and learning opportunities. The Director will work with the Assessment and Statistics coordinator to evaluate learning activities.
Diversity and inclusion initiatives are a priority for the Libraries and the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan includes diversity and inclusion as an important organizational value. The Director will work to integrate diversity practices and values into the Libraries' human resources management activities and into professional development and learning activities. Responsibilities include serving as library administration's liaison to the Libraries' Committee on Diversity and Inclusion.
The Director of Recruitment and Organizational Learning is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians' Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. - Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program
- Significant professional, post-MLS experience in an academic or research library
- Experience or academic preparation in instruction/teaching; or administration; or human resources management; or diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment discrimination law and policy
- Experience with search committees and recruiting
