Hourly Wastewater Geographical Information System (GIS) Assistant
Wage: $11.00 per hour
Variable daytime hours up to 25 hours per week
Under immediate direction, assists to create and update GIS data, including sanitary sewers and manholes using GIS and GPS software. Collects field data and locations of existing wastewater infrastructure. Enters data into the GIS system including importing and exporting data from GPS handhelds and Wastewater Division data collected in the field. Performs post-processing applications to collected data and assimilates the data into GIS. Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to wastewater utility GIS system maintenance, operations and services. Assists to train employees in the uses of GIS resources. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum education, experience and certification
High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary coursework in engineering or a related field preferred. Preference for knowledge of the ESRI suite of GIS products, including ArcGIS (version 10.4 and above); knowledge and experience using Trimble GeoSeries handheld GPS, GPS Correct and GPS Analyst software; ability to interface AutoCAD with ArcGIS and other geographical information systems to effectively and efficiently transfer data for use by those systems; knowledge of MSSQL databases and skill in the use of computers. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8. Must pass criminal background check.
