Directs and supervises the overall operation of the histology laboratory processes and employees.
Plans and delegates work to ensure slides are produced with the highest quality and are turned out to pathologists in a timely manner.
Observes and reviews work to assure that workload is completed with accuracy and quality.
Investigates and resolves all issues and problems encountered.
Updates procedures and practices to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Schedules laboratory personnel to adequately staff the lab.
Monitors and evaluates employee performance and takes disciplinary action when necessary.
Maintains and operates laboratory equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and procedures.
Supervises accessioning, grossing, fixation, processing, cutting and staining of tissues and production of slides.
Oversees general operations of the lab, including, but not limited to: (1) compliance with licensure, (2) accreditation and regulatory requirements, (3) maintenance of laboratory equipment, (4) quality control of equipment, (5) supply ordering and (6) assisting with inspections.
A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience.
Completion of an accredited Histotechnology Program or BS degree in a science field required.
