CFC operates five different fitness centers across campus, 95+ group fitness classes a week, and works with a variety of departments across campus to meet fitness and wellness needs.|
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Fitness Programs and Group Fitness, the Program Coordinator of Group Fitness will assist with selection, training and orientation of an instructor staff of approximately 65 students and temporaries. Organize and facilitate, with direction, scheduled staff meetings and training sessions. Assist with planning and conducting ongoing training and development for instructors. Prepare written materials and reports relating to staff and programs, and actively participate in planning and presenting information at all staff meetings. Implement ongoing evaluation procedures, including positive recognition and merit raise procedures as well as follow established disciplinary procedures as necessary. Assist in management and mentoring of Instructor and Student Coordinator staff. This position will also assist in payroll management and preparation, update and maintain staff database records, prepare and report on staffing issues, inform staff of new and updated policies and procedures, manage employee list serves, and oversee period newsletters/notifications as directed. Assist with scheduling of class facilities, oversee staff sub procedures, and track/troubleshoot class coverage issues such as absenteeism, tardiness, and illness as directed. Assist in filling class schedule for regular, summer and holiday/break schedules. Teach classes as qualified and directed. The incumbent will play a vital role in the Professional Staff and Management Team for Cornell Fitness Centers as well as Recreational Services. Standard work hours for this position will vary, and night and weekend hours will be required. This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.
Associates Degree and two years of related experience required. Certification by American Red Cross in Adult CPR/AED and First Aid required. ACSM, AFAA or other nationally recognized certification in group exercise instruction is required. Strong oral and written communication skills as well as computer proficiency in all office related software systems required. A willingness to work with students and develop their skills through effective training and supervision is also required.
Bachelor's Degree in Fitness Management, Human Resource Management or Communications with a strong emphasis in health and fitness or campus recreation is preferred. Managerial experience in a group fitness, adult or university recreation setting preferable. Strong preference will be given to those who have managed a minimum of 10-15 staff at one time. ACSM, AFAA or other nationally recognized certification in personal training preferred.
