Involves a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities for an academic department / school / college or organization. Provides assistance to the dean / chair, faculty, and students in academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, the evaluation and awarding of fellowships and block grant funds, student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs.
Applies professional Student Services concepts, provides varied student services to students, faculty, and department / school / college management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues.
The adviser for Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology is responsible for undergraduate outreach, orientation, and academic advising for the Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology Department in the Physical and Biological Sciences Division. Undergraduate degrees administered by this department include:
● Biology B.S.
● Human Biology B.S.
● Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology B.S.
● Neuroscience B.S.
● Biology minor
The undergraduate adviser provides academic major and minor advising and services for all registered UC Santa Cruz undergraduate students in Physical and Biological Sciences throughout their tenure at our university, though most of the services focus on student success in physical and biological science majors once a student is proposed or declared. The Division of Physical and Biological Sciences provides general science education for all UCSC undergraduates, educates undergraduate science and engineering majors, and maintains research and graduate programs of national and international stature. The division is comprised of departments and programs of study, organized research units, instructional and research programs to attract and retain a diverse population of students, and a variety of support programs and facilities.
● Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
● Excellent interpersonal skills.
● Possess skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.
● Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
● Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, and written communication skills.
