What will you be doing?
In short, you'll work closely with revenue cycle customers in support of hospital billing applications. You'll be a cross-functional, knowledgeable, single point of contact for those customers. Our application environment includes multiple EHR systems, departmental systems, interfaces and clinical data repositories. An understanding of the application/system dynamics and how they integrate with Epic will be key to your success.

The UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) Hospital Billing Application Analyst (Analyst) is both a subject matter expert and a technical systems expert who offers an array of cross-functional systems knowledge and support skills for applications used by multiple UW Medicine customer groups. Analyst support skills span the entire lifecycle of UW Medicine's Epic Resolute Hospital Billing system, from initial business process analysis and requirements gathering, through project delivery, software testing, systems troubleshooting, and training, to production system support and process analysis and improvement. The Analyst manages the Epic Resolute Hospital Billing application across UW Medicine and provides end-user support. The Analyst is responsible for working on large projects requiring a broad knowledge of all aspects of information systems. This position will perform software implementations, configuration of systems and testing, and work with operational personnel to match technical capabilities with the business requirements of UW Medicine. This position reports to the Epic Hospital Billing Applications Manager and works closely with other IT staff, hospital and billing office staff.
The UW Medicine billing application infrastructure is a highly complex set of components performing significant functions for billing end users. The Epic Resolute Hospital Billing system is integrated deeply with many other applications and the knowledge of how these applications are interfaced and the impact of such interfaces needs to be understood so the impact of configuration changes or design of new components is known.
UW Medicine relies on enterprise wide technological solutions and electronic information to enable the quickest and most reliable health care for its customers. These systems must be available on a 24 x 7 basis in order to allow Physicians and Nursing staff access to vital patient information. If the systems are not available the potential for lost revenue and patient life is very real. The availability and security of the information is of the highest priority.
ITS continually evolves its data architecture to meet the expanding business and clinical requirements of UW Medicine. The goal is to support a highly available, reliable, easy to use, distributed production computing environment.
This position maintains the enterprise billing system to support the administrative, clinical and financial computing requirements of UW Medicine. It also provides consultation and support to partners, systems managers, senior computing specialists and operations personnel of varying levels of expertise.
Proactively Monitor and Maintain Systems (20%)
Coordinate change requests and trouble tickets, including tracking and rioritization of change requests/tickets.
Coordinate and/or participate in required testing of change requests and trouble tickets using standard methodologies.
Follow required Change Control processes to ensure proper approval, coordination, and communication of systems changes.
Maintain system and application tables in production, test, and training environments.
Monitor system outputs for integrity and error identification.
Act as a liaison between systems to ensure data integrity and information flow.
Maintain accurate documentation of systems changes and issues by using standard methodologies.
Perform problem resolution.
Perform analysis and troubleshooting for application issues.
Manage and maintain issue tracking, internally and with vendor.
Provide regular status to management, customers, and stakeholders.
Liaise with Site Business Analysts/End Users (20%)
Assist in resolution of application and process problems.
Answer calls and provide information on application use and process issues.
Work closely with the UW Medicine ITS Help Desk to provide efficient and responsive support to end user staff.
Provide supportive and positive mechanisms for reporting application and system deficiencies, and facilitate reporting of suggestions for system improvements.
Using quality improvement principles, monitor system impact on user and departmental workflows and incorporate results into system enhancements.
Attend or lead user advisory committees as required.
Act as quality assurance liaison between application system end users and system developers.
Act as a liaison and/or facilitate communication between end users and ITS system administrators, other analysts and programmers.
Work with user groups to provide diagnostic assistance, resolution to questions, and problem direction. This includes assisting user groups with filing of issue and problem reports, and routing system problems to ITS.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with all levels of user groups regarding changes to systems.
Act as corporate focal point for distributing information and providing assistance in understanding and using system required inputs, and expected output.
Analyze Business Processes and Procedures (10%)
Analyze current and proposed business practices.
Recommend new process improvements.
Evaluate possible vendor solutions and system products.
Observe and interview employees regarding operations and procedures.
Act as an expert resource to UW Medicine staff by anticipating and identifying educational, procedural and functional problems associated with the implementation of all new applications.
Meet with customer to identify system needs.
Set appropriate expectations of customer requirement fulfillment
Lead cross-functional project teams.
Provide functional expertise to optimize the design and development of systems.
Demonstrate, evaluate, and test prototype and production systems.
Perform System Configuration/Development Tasks (10%)
Perform system configuration/ development changes necessary to develop and/or maintain the application.
Assist in the requirements gathering, development, and testing of system interfaces.
Manage and Perform Project Tasks (10%)
Responsible for the successful completion of assigned project tasks.
Test assigned configuration and/or development tasks for usability, performance, and adherence to standards.
Manage implementation of sub-projects.
Report progress on assigned tasks to project manager.
Track detail status of each task.
Perform and report results of application and system testing.
Organize and track detail of application and integration testing.
Create project documentation, including monthly status report to stakeholders and sponsors.
Follow required Change Control processes to ensure proper approval, coordination, and communication of project tasks.
Develop and Maintain System Documentation (10%)
Document system and business requirements.
Create test plans and scripts for system and user acceptance testing.
Document current proposed date flows.
Identify need for and document support plans.
Assist with and document the development of new standard operational procedures.
Develop and Provide Training for IT Services Staff (5%)
Provide internal training for IT Services staff.
Maintain training system, as per training system services level agreement.
Manage Vendor Relationships (5%)
Primary contact for daily operations with external vendors.
Manage and coordinate system or application upgrades with external vendors.
Provide Regular Status Reporting and Time Allocation Updates (5%)
Provide weekly project time tracking and status reports.
Other Duties As Assigned (5%)
Other duties, as assigned by the Hospital Billing Manager, but are not limited to the following:
- Act as a backup for other Application Support team members and functions, as needed.
- Complete ad-hoc system and/or process analysis/ documentation as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Information Management, or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education/experience.
2+ years of successful experience in providing application support, including recent experience in training, configuring, or implementing a billing system.
Skilled in use of desktop computers, including proficiency with office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirements into design specifications, articulate alternatives, follow technical change control processes, and maintain workflow and implementation documentation.
Successful candidates will also have:
Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, escalate appropriately, communicate clearly, and learn quickly, with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers to build strong and effective relationships through building trust, imparting knowledge, and providing excellent customer service.
Ability to maintain status of tasks, defects, issues, and support requests on a daily basis.

Master's Degree in Computer Science, Health Information Management, or Business Administration.
Strongly prefer Epic Resolute development, implementation, and maintenance/support experience.
Experience with Hyland's OnBase and nThrive's Revenue Cycle suite of products (including Claims Management).
Knowledge of database structures, data definitions and data relationships.
Knowledge of all phases of software development or lifecycle for vendor supplied software.
Demonstrated experience managing medium to complex software configuration projects, including task planning, time estimates, delivery schedules, and documentation.

The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours.
On-call coverage on a rotational basis (7x24) will be required.
If not certified in Epic Resolute Hospital Billing Administration this Epic certification has lapsed, a current version of Epic Resolute Hospital Billing Administration certification must be achieved within six months to one year of hire date.
