The Olsen laboratory in the new School of Neuroscience at Virginia Tech is looking for an experienced laboratory technician who can independently oversee research activities within the laboratory as well as assist its primary investigatory (PI) with the operational oversight of the laboratory. This position supports projects focused on astrocyte development in the central nervous system. This position is a research position that is expected to function with relative independence and responsibility as well as report directly to the laboratory director. The lab technician will be involved in many aspects of experiments and is expected to achieve independence very quickly.
- Experience in the use of animals in research, animal handling and principles of anesthesia and perfusions.
- Experience with histology in neural tissues.
- Microscope experience such as confocal imaging.
- Foundational knowledge of neuroscience, specifically as it relates to electrical properties of cells.
- Basic knowledge of molecular neuroscience.
- Fundamental understanding of standard laboratory equipment ranging from centrifuges to PCR.
