Responsible for answering phones and assisting callers, greeting guests (clients), staff, volunteers, and service providers who come to the door. Advocate is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of the Safe House.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide crisis intervention, counseling, education, safety planning, and referrals to callers on the crisis line.
Approve intake and eligibility evaluations with potential guests.
Conduct and approve intake and eligibility evaluations to determine guest’s needs and appropriateness for services at the Safe House.
Interact with guests in the community areas of the Safe House and role model social skills,conflict resolution, parenting and other skills of daily living (this may include time management,self-care, conflict and stress management, parenting, nutrition, meal planning, parenting, car maintenance, budgeting).
Supervise and coordinate activities related to house policies and chores.
Identify guest needs and communicate these needs to the responsible staff member in order to secure donations and services.
Ensure documentation in guest records in an accurate and timely way and in accordance with agency policies and funding requirements.
Responsible for accurate and timely computer data entry and management for resident information and services.
Update daily roster and shift reports.
Assist in processing and storing donations as requested.
Attend and participate in supervision, weekly group meetings, and All Staff Meetings.
Conduct, attend, and participate in appropriate training and education.
Immediately report child abuse to Department of Children and Family Services as mandated by law and in accordance with agency procedures.
Ensure building is secure according to agency policy.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in social service, counseling, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
Willingness and ability to successfully complete 40 Hour Domestic Violence Training (WINGS will provide).
Willingness and ability to successfully complete CPR and First Aid certification (WINGS will provide).
Demonstrate knowledge of computer software programs and ability to enter numerical and alpha data accurately and efficiently. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access preferred.
Ability to answer crisis calls, provide referrals, complete eligibility intakes, assist residents, monitor the facility, and complete assigned duties.
Ability to follow agency procedure for admittance of people into the Safe House.
Bilingual skills (Spanish, Polish, or Russian) preferred.
Commitment to providing a safe, non-judging environment where families can identify and access their strengths and become aware of the impact of domestic violence.
Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and services of WINGS, and a commitment to women's issues, with a belief that families can live in a peaceful and non-violent environment.
A willingness and ability to work some evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays to ensure the complete staffing of our 24 hour facility.
Although the organization started as an advocate strictly for homeless women and children, WINGS has expanded 30 years later to become one of the largest domestic violence service and housing providers in the state of Illinois. Single individuals (women/men/transgender) and their children are able to receive temporary safe shelter through WINGS housing while staff provides one-on-one, individuali...zed assistance that allows the clients to set personal goals that will enable them to work, continue their education, and care for themselves and their children.
