Longwood University invites applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Athletics Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the team physician and the head athletic trainer within guidelines set forth by the NATA, NCAA, and the Commonwealth of Virginia to ensure the health and welfare of Longwood University intercollegiate athletes.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Evaluation/treatment of injury/illness to Longwood student-athletes • Provide emergency medical coverage during athletic events/practices/travel for teams • Refer injured/ill athletes to team physicians/consultants regarding injuries/illnesses/care • Communicate effectively with coaches and student-athletes alike regarding injuries and playing status • Communicate effectively with team physicians • Counseling/advising student-athletes and coaches regarding health, conditioning, illness or injury • Clinical supervision for CAATE accredited athletic training program students • Maintain medical/administrative records • Apply appropriate protective padding/braces/strapping/other orthotic devices • Design/modify appropriate individual rehabilitation of post-surgical/post-injury conditions • Primary sports coverage for Men’s Basketball and Men’s & Women’s Golf
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Master’s Degree is preferred or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent training and work experience • Eligibility for a Virginia State License required • BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer • Experience as an Athletic Trainer with Men’s Basketball • Must meet Longwood University criteria for driving institution-owned vehicles
