We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director in the Operational Initiatives Department. To qualify an Advanced business, public health or health administration degree and at least seven-ten (7-10) years or progressive management experience n the healthcare field, including experience in project and stakeholder management, data management, computerized information systems and hospital operations required. Green Belt certification/Lean Management/Process Improvement experience preferred. RN or other similar clinical experience, and FACHE certification preferred. Prior management of other supervisory/staff. Prior demonstrated experience with increasing responsibilities in health care organizations preferably in major teaching hospitals. Ability to communicate effectively and gain credibility with physicians, administration, staff, and external partners. Previous experience in coordinating all aspects of business plan development and operations. In-depth knowledge of survey processes. Strong critical thinking and analysis skills required. Strong decision making skills with ambiguous information essential. Must be comfortable leading change management efforts to further the mission of the organization.
In this role, the successful candidate in partnership with the Senior Vice President, implement key initiatives of the NYUHJD and NYUMC Musculoskeletal Service Line in accordance with the hospitals mission, goals, and operating budget. Responsible for administering the managerial functions of setting objectives, planning, staffing and directing activities of assigned complex clinical and/or large support service departments. Partner with the Senior Vice President in the operation of the hospital. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Committees. Effectively chairs, and/or participates actively in, Hospital and Medical Center Committees as assigned. Participates actively in professional organizations and external committees, effectively representing the Hospitals interests. Scope and lead/provide oversight to projects emerging from any of the above committees
- Budgets. Oversees the preparation of operating and capital budgets for areas of responsibility. Regularly analyses reports to ensure operations within approved budgets. Develops and recommends contingency plans to offset unexpected expenses.
- New Ventures and Program Development. Partner with the Senior Vice President of NYUHJD in the implementation of hospital ventures with the NYUHJD Board, with physicians, and with other collaborating partners. Leads the development of comprehensive feasibility studies of proposed projects, integrating the work products of the financial, legal, real estate, and strategic business planning departments of NYUHJD and NYUMC. Leads the development of business plans, P/L, and functional work plans for proposed musculoskeletal service line projects.
- Management Direction and Coordination and Human Resources. Oversee the operations of designated hospital departments. Provides consultation and direction to administrative and medical staff regarding operations and direction for the Hospital. Participate actively in recruitment and selection of Department Heads, and other managerial staff. Communicates to each direct report his/her responsibilities and expected standards of performance. Conducts a performance assessment for each direct report at least once within each calendar year. Develops and implements an annual program of competency development and assessment for each direct report and documents same in departmental files. Conducts an initial assessment of competence for all direct reports who are new to the organization or to their current position responsibilities. In conjunction with the Employee Relations Department, provides assistance and direction to Department Heads and other managerial staff in the fair administration of the disciplinary process.
