Laboratory Technician needed in the Hauf Lab in Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech. Our team studies the molecular mechanisms underlying reliable cell division using fission yeast as a model system. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, organized and reliable individual, who enjoys working in a team. The technician will assist with a research project that uses molecular biology, yeast molecular genetics, and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated scar-less genome engineering to explore the gene expression network of the mitotic checkpoint. Additional tasks include preparing reagents and maintaining reagent inventory, excellent record-keeping, and assisting other group members with their experiments.

- Laboratory experience in molecular biology such as PCR, cloning, etc.
- Experience performing basic computer functions.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to learn new procedures.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Bachelor of Science degree in biology, biochemistry or a related discipline or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Laboratory experience in working with RNA.
- Laboratory experience with fluorescence microscopy.
