Reporting to the Director of Accounting and Tax Services, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the supervision and operation of the payroll and accounts payable departments. Maintain proper internal controls over disbursements, administer purchasing card program to ensure integrity and accuracy of payments in compliance with College, state, and federal policies, procedures and restrictions. Responsible for compliance with federal and state payroll tax reporting requirements.Recommend and implement process improvements.Supervise, develop and support a staff of two, serving as backup to process payroll and accounts payable during staff absences. Prepare quarterly and annual federal and state payroll tax returns (i.e., 941, M941, W2, 1042) and other various tax filings (i.e., MA performer tax withholding, MA sales and use tax, federal 1099s, 1098). Support Human Resources in payroll-related matters. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, preferably in a higher education environment. Experience working with ERP and time-reporting systems; able to evolve and adapt to system changes. Proficient in Excel, with experience using other applications in the MS Office Suite (e.g. Word). Prior supervisory experience preferred.
