The DevOps Engineer provides support for infrastructure, applications, and database components of both on-premise and Cloud Application systems for Harvard University.
As a member of the Harvard community, this individual will work collaboratively, developing solid working relationships with HUIT customers, staff, management, consultants and vendors. This individual will also provide mentorship and guidance to HUIT technical teams, building awareness of database and application best practices and operational procedures. Reporting to the DevOps Manager, one of several on the team.
Provides expertise in AWS, scripting, automation and support of application full stack.
The primary focus will be to support AWS infrastructure automation but may include support for aspects of web applications infrastructure support maintained by the HUIT team.
The HUIT team supports multiple environments including technologies such as Apache and Weblogic.
Core database platforms supported include Oracle, SQLServer and MySQL.
Core technical responsibilities will include installing, configuring, writing and releasing code developed by devops team members; managing and monitoring multiple development, test and production environments; triaging and resolving operational issues; working with development teams on system design and performance tuning; and designing and implementing database and server security protocols. The DevOps engineer will work directly with internal customers to provide analysis, recommendations and solutions for creating, upgrading, integrating, and managing database and application systems in a distributed environment.
This position will assist in the support of AWS infrastructure. Therefore, the ability to create, maintain, and develop scripted solutions for the following is highly desired:
a high availability, self-healing Cloud architecture for ERP applications
reusable, version-controlled, well-documented, infrastructure-as-code Cloud objects
an automated deployment pipeline for application code, configuration and patches designed for frequent releases without disruption to the end-user community
The DevOps Engineer will serve on a rotation providing 24x7 on-call support for production systems supported by the HUIT devOps team. HUIT strongly supports ongoing professional development including keeping up with emerging technology and trends with respect to Cloud technologies and supporting tools and systems.
