|Provides administrative guidance and advice to the three Chairs regarding complex policy matters, academic HR, and financial matters. Responsibilities include overseeing and managing academic human resources for the departments, including but not limited to: appointments, promotions, merits and non-senate appointments. Ensures smooth delivery of services from Campus Shared Services. Plans and manages instructional deliverables, which support the overall teaching, student services, class scheduling, student advising, graduate admissions, fellowship and fee remission administration. Collaborates with the Curriculum Committee, department Chairs and other members of the faculty to complete the plans for the instructional program. Interfaces with employees in each department who may provide academic and strategic support. |
Manages and develops budget for three departments. Develops and implements short-term as well as long-range budget and financial planning for the cluster of departments. The departmentsÃ annual operating budget is approximately 9.7 million. Monitors budgets, and develops and monitors financial reports for general appropriations, grants, endowments and other funds. Works closely with the L&S DeansÃ Office on financial and administrative matters.
Develops short and long range planning for administrative operations and improvements to services. Establishes and recommends change to policies and procedures within the departments. Analyzes staff workload, initiates and manages reorganizations when necessary. Independently develops and implements policies and procedures regarding all aspects of non-academic staff management including but not limited to: supervision of ten staff members; staff development; recruitment and hiring; creation of performance standards; performance evaluations; merits and reclassifications, and disciplinary actions and dismissal. Ensures staff training and timely access to all necessary online systems such as BAIRS, BFS, HCM, SIS, BEAR FACTS, Travel and Entertainment, and Cal Answers.
Manages all aspects of departmental space on two different floors. Oversee departmental space assignments and changes, coordinate moves, renovations and installation of communications and network services.Knowledge/Skills: Ã¯ Broad knowledge of campus processes, protocols and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management as well as knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques. Ã¯ Demonstrated knowledge of human resources policies, applicable union contracts, as well as payroll. Ã¯ Broad knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs such as BFS, HCM, PPS, BAIRS, SIS, Cal Answers, Cal Planning, Excel, etc. Ã¯ Proven ability to organize department work functions in an efficient and effective manner. Ã¯ Skills to work collaboratively with other campus units. Ã¯ Demonstrated employee management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others. Education/Training: Ã¯ BA/BS or demonstrated relevant management experience.
