The Director of Community Building and Inclusion leads the schools inclusivity programs: works with students, teachers, administrators and parents to foster community and will develop and administer institutional partnerships that further the school’s mission, both on and off campus. The Director of Community Building and Inclusion reports directly to the Head of School.
We are looking for an experienced educator who is committed professionally and personally to promoting diversity, inclusion and community building in independent schools. In addition to being knowledgeable and experienced in best practices in the area of inclusivity and community building the ideal candidate is dynamic, interested in learning and growing as a professional, and able to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Provide strategic leadership in the area of inclusivity and community building to support Burke’s mission and strategic plan
Work with faculty and the school’s academic administrative team to further develop and strengthen the school’s multicultural and cultural competency curriculum
Work with the school’s administrative team on issues of diversity and inclusion across all school programs and departments
Act as a resource for faculty and staff in providing academic, emotional and social support for students and families of diverse backgrounds
Provide support, coaching, and training to faculty to help support culturally competent teaching and to address identified faculty needs
Coordinate in-service workshops and external professional development opportunities to enhance faculty, staff and trustee knowledge of inclusion and diversity practices
Lead the Faulty/Staff Inclusivity and Community Building Committee
Act as leader and resource for the Parent Association Inclusivity and Community Building Committee
Serve as a member of the Board of Trustees Cultural Competency Committee
Partner with the administrative team to recruit, hire and retain faculty of diverse backgrounds
Partner with the Admissions Office and Division Directors to recruit, welcome and retrain students from diverse backgrounds
Lead and administer the school’s efforts to grow its network of educational, civic and business partnerships
Works with members of the upper school administrative team to coordinate assemblies and Youth Voice (student government) work
