Purpose of Position:
This position is a term (non-tenure) faculty position at the rank of Instructor in the area of forensic science. The faculty member will support the department with teaching responsibilities in crime scene investigation on the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as other courses for which adjunct faculty are currently utilized.
Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the areas of Forensic Science and may include crime scene investigation, physical evidence analysis and general forensic science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Possible course assignments may include but are not limited to: FRSC 202 (Crime and Science), FRSC 300 (Forensic Science Survey), FRSC 309 and 565 (Forensic Crime Scene Investigation), FRSC 410 (Forensic Pattern Evidence), FRSC 412 (Forensic Analysis of Firearms and Toolmarks), FRSC 490 (Professional Practices in Forensic Science.), FRSC 661 (Analysis of Pattern Evidence), FRSC 662 (Firearm and Toolmark Identification). The faculty member may be expected to contribute to independent studies and research projects as a direct mentor or by serving on research committees of undergraduate and graduate students who are registered for FRSC 492, FRSC 692, and FRSC 793.
-M.S. or Ph.D. in Forensic Science or an appropriate discipline;
-Training and professional work experience in the field of forensic science or crime scene investigations
-Qualified to teach in the area of general forensic science at undergraduate and graduate levels;
-Evidence of a commitment to excellence in research and teaching;
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
-Previous collaboration or experience in applied forensic laboratories/entities
-Professional experience in a casework or academic forensic laboratory setting
