The Associate Director: Industry Engagement & Outreach (AD) must have a passion for working with creative students and will serve as lead for the Apex Systems Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship's (Apex CIE) innovative programs for connecting students and industry partners. The ideal team member will establish and sustain partnerships within the broader Virginia Tech community, specifically corporate partners, in order to create transformational learning experiences. The Associate Director is responsible for planning and implementing an integrated approach to engaging industry with Apex CIE in a holistic manner to expand relationships with faculty, students, and corporate partners. This position will manage and support the identification and evaluation of new strategic partnership opportunities that fit into the strategic vision of Virginia Tech and will contribute to its growth. This position will directly oversee Virginia Tech's Catalyst program. The Catalyst program provides select teams of multidisciplinary faculty and students the opportunity to work alongside representatives from industry to ideate on business problems, critically assess opportunities and propose solutions based on market potential. The goal is to enhance entrepreneurship education by having faculty, students, alumni, and associated businesses working together to accelerate the launch of new startups or scale existing ventures via commercialization of technology and intellectual property.
Master's degree required, preferably business administration, engineering, industrial design, or related field
Experience with project planning and managing multiple tasks and deadlines
Ability to form positive relationships with students and corporate partners
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail for tasks
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
Demonstrated interest in commitment to creating an atmosphere of innovation and entrepreneurship at Virginia Tech
Highly dependable. Ability to assume responsibility for delegated tasks and meet agreed upon deadlines
Experience supervising or serving as advisor to student leaders in campus environment
Significant experience building joint partnerships
Broad understanding of innovation in large organizations and launching new ventures
Experience as an entrepreneur – creating, launching a new product or service, and growing a company
Ability to manage logistics involved in planning and implementing large and small projects with multiple students on each project
Ability to build partnerships with industry
Experience managing grants and joint partnerships
Previous experience teaching entrepreneurship classes at the undergraduate level
