The Palm Valley School is located in Rancho Mirage, CA, in the heart of the beautiful Coachella Valley. We are a college-preparatory school that serves around 400 students in Preschool through Grade 12. The Palm Valley School is the only CAIS/NAIS Independent School in the Coachella Valley. We are seeking a full time Sciences and Mathematics teacher in our Middle and Upper school divisions for the 2016-17 School year. Currently, the teaching load includes ninth grade Biology, Anatomy and Algebra along with a section of 7th grade Science. While this schedule is typical, it is subject to change depending on the candidate and enrollment for the coming year. All Middle and Upper School teachers are additionally expected to oversee an Advisory group of 8-10 students in conjunction with a study hall period. Our Sciences department of 3 full-time MS/US members has access to specialized science classroom facilities, each with fully equipped lab and storage areas, but also access to use our technology labs, and our SmartLab with a 3-D printer, AR-3D Sandbox, and other specified Makerspace/Tinkerlab equipment for use as needed. Each classroom is fully outfitted with appropriate technology and materials as requested for curriculum needs.
Qualified candidates would hold a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a related field, have a minimum of three (3) years experiences teaching in a related area, and be passionate about Independent School education and working with students in Middle and Upper school. Ideal candidates would be lifelong learners who are passionate about their content area, willing to fully embrace technology integration, be knowledgeable about inquiry-based or experiential design theory (Design Thinking, PBL, etc.) and/or the Maker Space/Tinker Lab movement, enjoy collaborating with students and colleagues, be a strong communicator, and have a good understanding of the developmental needs of students in grades 6-12.
