The Intellectual Property Officer will be processing transactions related to UCSC IP management and technology transfer functions. The IP Officer will process and manage a variety of IP management activities including records of inventions and patent filings. The IP Officer will work closely with the Office of Industry Alliances & Technology Commercialization (IATC) technology licensing and commercialization groups with regard to intellectual property matters. With consultation with the Director of IP Management, the IP Officer will manage the IP portfolio including receiving, processing and filing invention disclosures and patent prosecution documents.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced intellectual property/technology transfer professional with a full understanding of industry practices and university policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
The Office of Industry Alliances & Technology Commercialization (IATC) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is responsible for the administration and management of intellectual property (IP) developed at the campus. IP management includes identification, disclosure, reporting, and dissemination of inventions, works of authorship, and certain tangible materials, and associated patents, copyrights, trademarks, and data rights. IATC manages patent prosecution and registration of copyrights and trademarks. IATC is an outreach and training resource for IP management process and activities.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry or related field.
At least five (5) years overall experience in intellectual property administration.
At least two (2) years work experience in a university intellectual property management office.
Proven ability to process and manage technology transfer transactions in a research intensive university setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical drafting skills.
