The Philadelphia School (TPS), a progressive preschool-8th grade independent school located in Center City Philadelphia, seeks a collaborative, strategic, and innovative Head of School. Building on a uniquely relational school culture and history, healthy finances and robust enrollment, the Head of School has the opportunity to advance the distinctive educational mission and capacity of TPS as the school approaches its 50th anniversary.
The Philadelphia School was founded in 1972 by a group of parents who wanted to nurture children’s intellectual curiosity, capacity for play, and their connection to the city and the outdoors. Joyful learning was at the heart of this endeavor. That purpose remains alive today. TPS prepares students to become active stewards of urban and natural environments, and fosters creativity, agency and innovation in both teaching and learning. These commitments, and their pursuit at the highest level of excellence, distinguish The Philadelphia School in the independent school landscape. The school will fully realize its enrollment growth plan in the 2017-18 academic year with approximately 475 students. Now, at the conclusion of a three-year arc of community engagement leading to the development of a robust strategic plan, TPS is poised for its next chapter.
The incoming Head of School will lead the implementation of the school’s ambitious strategic plan, establish clear and effective internal systems to support its current size, and affirm and fortify the school’s progressive educational identity in a way that is responsive to its evolving needs. Further, as the school’s leading ambassador, the Head of School will effectively communicate the school’s compelling narrative and garner support for strategic priorities. The new Head will lead the school through its 50th Anniversary in 2022 with the goals of strengthening the identity of the school, improving financial sustainability, and substantially increasing fundraising.
The Philadelphia School has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist it in the search for the Head of School.
