Advertised Summary Job Description: Columbia University Information Technology (CUIT) supports mission critical technology for over 40,000 faculty, staff and students at Columbia University.
Reporting to the Manager, Application Development in the Identity and Access Management (IAM) group, the Project Lead Systems Engineer is responsible for overseeing the project design, development, implementation and on-going support of our centralized Active Directory environment. This technology supports authentication and person information for a broad range of applications and systems that include Windows Server 2008, 2012, Active Directory, and Exchange.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: - Oversees the planning, design and maintenance of Microsoft Active Directory. -Oversees the implementation of moderate/complex group policies and integration of Active Directory with MIT Kerberos. -Installs moderate/complex impact upgrades, patches and fixes to moderate/high impact environments and customers with high visibility. -Monitors automated reports and/or responds to alerts for multiple hardware/software system issues. -Assembles trend reports and monitors for utilization levels. -Assesses and recommends maintenance and/or hardware/software solutions for system reliability and effectiveness. -Establishes effective processes for communication with the service desk, end users, developers, and operations staff regarding availability, performance or functionality problems. -Performs diagnosis and resolution of moderately complex hardware/software issues. -Designs processes to eliminate moderately complex and possibly systemic problems. -Partners with external vendors and CUIT staff.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: -Works with vendors directly on customization and implementation work. -Contributes to the defining of hardware and software configurations to address University needs. -Consults to key customers and senior management on project design and development scope. -Assists customer organizations with planning and implementing complex configurations. -Identifies and documents infrastructure configuration requirements. -Maintains good relationships with peer technical groups and other support groups. -Provides project management and technical consulting on moderately complex projects. -Available for on call rotation for after-hours and weekend work. -All other duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. - Minimum 5-7 years' related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: - Strong knowledge of and experience with Active Directory. - Strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Windows Server systems design, development, maintenance techniques and processes. - Broad knowledge of information technologies. - Excellent written and verbal communication Skills. - Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. - Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise. - Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects. - Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential. - Ability to work with minimal supervision. - Weekend and off-hour work may be necessary on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications: - 6+ years related experience. - Knowledge of MIT Kerberos and/or Microsoft Kerberos. - Strong knowledge of and experience with PowerShell and/or Perl scripting language.
