This includes full time, part time, Advanced Standing and Wheelock@Worcester students. Reporting to the Interim Dean of Social Work, Leadership, and Youth Advocacy, this position requires someone who is committed to social work practice and education that is justice and strengths based, multiculturally competent, family centered, community based, and interprofessionally collaborative. In keeping with the Council on Social Work Education's emphasis on competency based education and declaration of field education as the signature pedagogy of the social work profession, the Director has critical leadership responsibilities. The Director serves as a key member of the Social Work Leadership Team, an active and collaborative group providing vision, guidance, and support to the social work students, faculty and programs of Wheelock College.The Director is expected to oversee the learning experiences of all BSW and MSW students throughout the field education process as needed to support students' growth and development as justice based social work practitioners. The Director of Social Work Field Education is also expected to be well engaged in the community in order to stay current with needs and priorities, develop relevant partnerships, and maintain field practicum sites and relationships that meet the needs of the communities in Greater Boston, Worcester and beyond. The Director will work closely with the Social Work Field Education staff and other department staff and faculty. Teaching opportunities may be available.Responsibilities:The responsibilities of the Director of Social Work Field Education include, but are not limited to:Establish, enhance and expand placement sites to ensure that agencies meet the Council on Social Work Education requirements and that the organization's mission and philosophy are consistent with the mission and purpose of Wheelock's social work program;Supervise and work collaboratively with 3-4 Field Education staff.In collaboration with Field Education staff, hire, orient, support and train up to 15 Faculty Field Liaisons annually;Provide ongoing, timely support to Faculty Field Liaisons as field challenges emerge. Educate and train Faculty Field Liaisons around instructing field seminar courses and the importance of being able to support the social work program as the signature pedagogy;Assume a caseload of Bachelors and Masters level students to facilitate practicum placement and support;Work closely with Field Education staff, and BSW and MSW Program Chairs to orient and prepare social work students to enter the field;Identify alternate placement sites for students whose placements become disrupted;Oversight, organization and ongoing enhancement of the 15+ Field Practicum Seminar courses for both programs and locations;Oversight, organization, and implementation of the orientation, training, evaluation of, and support to Field Instructors;Ongoing evaluation and enhancement of the Student Handbook and Field Practicum Manual in electronic and hard copy formats; Oversee and enhance processes to capture student and placement site related documentation;Analyzes operational procedures, implementing changes in policies and procedures, as necessary.Programmatic teamwork with the Interim Dean, BSW and MSW Program Chairs, and social work faculty;Represent Wheelock College social work programs in agency, school, organizational, and community based settings;Represent Wheelock College social work programs at NECON monthly meetings; andFacilitate/co-facilitate a Seminar in Field InstructionRequirements:The ideal candidate must have:An MSW from a CSWE accredited program and a minimum of seven years of professional experience;Licensure at the LICSW level is preferred;A demonstrated commitment to human rights and social justice as well as to culturally competent practice;Experience supervising staff, preferred;Experience in and/or knowledge of diverse practice settings;A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of communities and community partners; Exemplary written and oral communication skills;Evidence of strong organizational and administrative skills;Exemplary problem solving and project management skillsExtensive experience as a Field Instructor for bachelor- or master-level social work students.Completed a Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI)Extensive, demonstrated experience working with social work interns as a Field Instructor, Field Liaison and/or Agency placement coordinator;Familiarity with information technology, including Microsoft Office; Strong leadership and administrative experience;Experience in an academic environment preferred.Additional Information:We at Wheelock College are committed to creating, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity that values the uniqueness of every individual and actively promotes social justice.
