Advertised Summary Job Description: The incumbent will assist in all aspects of postmortem examination including but not limited to evisceration and restoration of the body. He/She will assist in training of Pathology residents & medical students in the techniques of evisceration, brain removal and spinal cord removal as well as maintain, clean & supply autopsy facility. The incumbent will also accession and triage specimens; gross and process uncomplicated small & large specimens. He/She will also assist in preparation of specimens for teaching and conferences.
General Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and at least one year experience, or Bachelor's degree and at least three years of related experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
Must have a New York State Dept of Education Medical Technician, Technologist or Histotechnician license. Must be able to lift and transfer bodies.
Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be available for on call on evenings and weekends and work overtime as needed.
The position is subject to Article 165 of title VIII of educational law, Joint Commission requirement, policies and standards in addition to all regulatory requirements
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: 1. Ability to work independently, under minimal supervision 2. Knowledge of basic chemical and/or biological terminology and techniques 3. Knowledge of more sophisticated laboratory equipment 4. Ability to use statistics 5. Ability to perform work in a neat and orderly manner, in accordance with safety regulations 6. Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques 7. Ability to train lower-level technicians.
