Summary of Duties:
Working under the supervision of the Head of Preservation & Reformatting, the incumbent will develop and implement a plan for assessing the Ohio State University Libraries’ audiovisual collections, with a focus on rare and unique items. The incumbent will also develop and pilot a workflow and create associated documentation for on-demand reformatting of rare and unique audiovisual collections in a range of formats through trusted audiovisual preservation and reformatting vendors. In the context of a vibrant and developing infrastructure for managing and preserving digital collections and maturing programs of digital reformatting and born-digital curation, this position will work closely with colleagues and in different spaces across the organization, particularly in the Special Collections Description and Access Department, Thompson Library Special Collections, The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, Archives, the Music and Dance Library, and the Library Information Technology Department. May include supervision of student assistants.
Bachelor’s degree; working knowledge of a variety of analog and digital audiovisual formats and the preservation concerns associated with each. Experience with digitization; ability to communicate effectively in writing, on the phone, and in person in a variety of settings; ability to work independently but maintain excellent communication with supervisor. Ability to work on one’s feet, push and pull carts, lift up to 30 pounds.
Knowledge of and experience with the principles and practices of digital preservation and archiving; advanced training in a field related to media, archival, museum, information, or preservation studies; some coursework relevant to audiovisual preservation; experience working with audiovisual preservation vendors; experience surveying and assessing library, museum or archives collections; experience developing and implementing workflows.
Target Salary: $14.42 - $17.79 Hourly
