Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Director of the Safer Newark Council for the School of Criminal Justice.
The Director of the Safer Newark Council will be an embedded researcher in the Newark Police Department (NPD). This position will be responsible for fulfilling requests for NPD crime data made by various Rutgers University departments, Safer Newark Council and other partners throughout the City of Newark. In addition, the individual must have grant writing skills and be able to provide support to any grant writing necessary for Safer Newark Council. The embedded researcher will also be giving presentations throughout the City of Newark about the interpretation of crime data within specific areas in the city; some duties include but are not limited to:
-Will be the project manager for Bureau of Justice Assistance body worn camera grant that was awarded to Rutgers University and the Newark Police Department.
-Will be the data analyst for Safer Newark Council, an entity that works with organizations and the City of Newark throughout the City in order to coordinate and provide support to public safety initiatives throughout the City of Newark.
-Responsible for providing analytical support for the homicide reduction strategy
-Attend NPD crime meetings, Comstat, Safer Newark Council Meetings
-Provide analysis and mapping for various units within NPD (Real Time Crime Center, Intel, etc).
-Present data to various Safer Newark Council partners and at community meetings.
-Provide support for Federal Consent Decree and Real Time Crime Center
-Supervise any graduate students that will assist Newark PD for analytical support.
The embedded researcher is responsible for working with federal, state and local agencies in order to access crime data.
This position is subject to grant funding and will terminate should funds become unavailable.

Experience with working closely with police departments gathering, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data for public safety issues throughout the City of Newark. The incumbent must also be able to design and implement effective evaluations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills, leadership skills and have strong relationships in the law enforcement community at the local and state levels.
