Advertised Summary Job Description: Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, the incumbent will demonstrate clinical judgment and skills in the full range of functions of a Registered Professional Nurse. Identify, assess (including Physical Assessment) and provide nursing treatment for actual or potential health problems. Perform health assessment and provide primary care to graduate and undergraduate students in the provision of campus health education and the completion of administrative duties. Triage patients' complaints using critical assessment skills to include crisis intervention, acute and chronic medical problems and women's health related concerns. Refer patients for further clinical evaluation and follow-up, either immediate care or future appointment. Delivery of care includes administration of vaccines, medications, allergy shots, ear irrigation, urgent care nursing, women's health counseling. Participate in inter-disciplinary committees. Perform telephone triage; participate in peer review and quality assurance. Work in a collegial/team model which includes registered nurses, medical assistants, lab staff, physicians, nurse practitioners and nutritionists. Will be trained in travel medicine in order to provide travel assessment to students which include advice on preventing and managing illness and injury while traveling as well as appropriate vaccines and medications. Performs all duties and services in full compliance with Columbia Health policies and procedures.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Hours of Health Service are 8am - 7pm during the academic year. Summer hours are 9am - 5pm. Responsible for covering a pre-determined number of Saturdays during the academic year.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Requires current New York State RN license and minimum two (2) years recent medical/surgical or related experience coupled with strong assessment skills. Must complete current CPR course, infection disease/control certificate. Ability to communicate effectively and develop trusting relationships with a diverse student population and staff. Ability to use computer to access electronic medical record and electronic schedule and email.
