Purpose of Position:
Direct a program of training, assessment, and technical assistance to support a national certification programs for individuals assisting Social Security disability beneficiaries.
Teach post-baccalaureate/graduate courses in the areas of Social Security and other federal benefit programs, Medicaid and Medicare, and return to work programs for individuals with disabilities.
Develop and deliver new online courses in the area of federal disability policies and health care coverage for individuals with disabilities.
Coordinate the NTDC and POD work incentive counselor and community partner Social Security certification program.
Coordinate the development and modification of all NTDC certification and assessment requirements, grading rubrics, and remediation activities; and
Assume primary responsibility for the management and implementation of the NTDC continuing certification program.
Assume primary responsibility for quality assurance in the implementation of research study protocols for a large national demonstration study of return to work programs for Social Security disability beneficiaries.
Engage in service to the RRTC, School of Education, university, community agencies, and state/national professional organizations.
Master's degree in special education, rehabilitation counseling, social work or related field.
Minimum of five years providing direct instruction and technical assistance to professionals providing work incentive counseling services to social security disability beneficiaries.
Demonstrated record of designing and delivering high quality online coursework.
Extensive knowledge of social security policies, regulations, and procedures.
Extensive knowledge of health insurance options for adolescents and adults with disabilities, including Medicaid, Medicare, ACA, private insurance, etc.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Prior experience working in national, state, or local disability agencies preferred.
