Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 350 students in Northwest Washington, DC, is seeking a full-time dynamic, innovative, and experienced elementary (K-5) science teacher. Strong candidates must have as passion for and credentials in life science, physical science, and outdoor education. Applicants with experience in integration and STEM are preferred. Candidates must be ready to teach in an experiential lab setting that combines learning by doing, as well as more traditional pedagogical techniques that challenge and inspire inquiry. Ideal applicants will have degrees in science and education, as well an affinity for teaching grades K-8, with particular emphasis on grades K-5. They will possess knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of children, as well as an understanding of best practices for delivering science instruction. Applicants should be familiar with and have experience in curriculum design and mapping using Understanding by Design. This position works collaboratively with the other science teachers at Lowell, as well as classroom teachers across multiple grade levels, in order to deliver a rigorous, integrated theme-based curriculum.
