Reporting to the Associate Director of Online Learning and Development, the Instructional Designer (ID) is a vital role for Global and Continuing Education (GCE) as they continue to develop distance learning initiatives. The incumbent will work in concert with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create high-quality, engaging, online courses that further the school's mission. The ID will be experienced in adult learning theory with an in-depth understanding of the instructional design and online-learning principles, strategies, technologies, program development, and fair use policy. This individual will balance multiple projects and competing priorities. The ID will collaborate with Information Technology staff for learning management system access, network access, and technology use policy.
Collaborate with HMS Faculty to coordinate the creation of distance learning activities, including enduring programs, hybrid courses, case-based learning, etc.
Have expertise in the tools and technologies used in the office, such as a learning management platform, rapid e-learning tools, design tools, etc., and support the GCE staff in the more advanced uses of these tools.
Review distance learning activities for compliance with ACCME criteria and make suggestions or edits as needed to ensure compliance.
Review and edit web-based materials for GCE, including online learning materials, course landing pages, and the registration process. Ensure consistency and accuracy while maintaining a visually appealing, professional web presence.
Develop reports for GCE on the usage and impact of online activities.
Design and maintain resource material for course directors, including planning materials for online courses, best practice guides for online course development, guides to creating online events, etc.
Contribute to growth and development of the office through special assignments related to distance learning and technology solutions for all aspects of GCE's business.

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related area. 3 years of job-related experience in education or training setting. Advanced specialized degree may count toward experience.
Experience in higher education setting preferred. Experience with adult learning theory (and other current elearning theories), LMS/CMS and rapid e-learning tools required. The successful candidate will be detail oriented, organized and concise with a strong work ethic. Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and management multiple competing deadlines and requests from multiple sources simultaneously. Experience with Cvent (the Event Management System), Mediasite, EdX and Canvas (LMS) strongly preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
