Department Profile: The Medical Telemetry unit at Florida Hospital Altamonte operates a telemetry capable Medical/Surgical Unit. This is a 25-bed unit with a patient population that represents a wide variety of medical conditions. Work Hours/Shifts: Full Time; 7p-7a; 3/12s Job Summary: The Health Unit Coordinator under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, performs general non-clinical duties and specific services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the nursing department and hospital administration. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required: Sufficient knowledge of English and spelling to perform various non-clinical duties. Neat and legible handwriting. Knowledgeable of medical terms. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (preferred) Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Course or recent hospital experience as a Health Unit Coordinator. Successful completion of Florida Hospital Health Unit Coordinator test. High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent (preferred) Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required: NAHUC Certification (preferred) Job Responsibilities: Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital's Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization's Performance Excellence Program Identifies, prioritizes and transcribes all types of physician orders by completing the patient Kardex, proper care map, making out necessary requisitions. Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and places appropriate information on the chart, chart forms, computer and electronic record. Accesses the medication room to place meds in a secure area upon medication arrival to the floor. Performs indirect patient care duties related to admission, transfer and discharge. Posts pertinent patient data timely. Responds appropriately in emergency situations Interacts with patients appropriate to age, acuity and culture. Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Accurately documents and monitors activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
