We're currently seeking a bright, collaborative, and motivated data manager to fill a Senior Business Data Analyst
position and join our Data & Systems team within University Development at Cal Poly. The Department:
University Development (UD) develops and fosters strong relationships with internal and external partners to enhance support for Cal Poly. UD establishes and implements an overall advancement program, including coordinating fundraising, communications, government and community relations, marketing and alumni programs. UD is data driven organization and demands current, accurate, precise, and complete constituent and potential donor information to be successful. UD data is derived from multiple sources by multiple applications at the enterprise, group, and individual levels. This complex data environment requires focused oversight to ensure quality and accuracy of the data. The Team:
In this position you will be a part of our growing Data & Systems team within Cal Poly’s University Development.The Position:
This a technical data management position that ensures the availability and quality of our data. You will be expected to conceive, develop, and implement governance documentation as well as better ways to populate, organize, store, and analyze our data with attention to security and confidentiality. This is a collaborative position that works with both technical and non-technical staff across multiple campus departments and with both internal and external stakeholders. The Benefits:

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of required education on a year-for-year basis)
Demonstrated understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.).
Demonstrated consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support.
Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies including SQL, data warehouse, and data lake concepts and technologies An analytical mindset that is technically oriented with demonstrated experience using problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Demonstrated ability to fully grasp the complexity and importance of data management and a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures.
Demonstrated ability to integrate multiple applications and/or systems.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data requirements and research data availability and access methods.
Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and system analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
Thorough knowledge of statistical and/or research databases.
Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies and procedures.
Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, data science, or other information technology related field.
Master of Science degree.
Business Data Management experience.
Experience working in a University Development or other philanthropic organization.
Experience with the ADVANCE system from Ellucian.

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
This position classification has been defined as "Exempt" and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
