The Center of Comparative Medicine and Pathology (CCMP), serving both the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and the Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) is seeking an Aquatics Systems and Services Technician for facilities at both MSKCC and WCMC.
The Aquatics Systems and Services Technician provides animal husbandry and health care to aquatic research animals at both MSKCC and WCMC facilities which currently houses 82,000 Zebrafish and 90 African Clawed-Frogs. Responsibilities include providing system maintenance and “troubleshooting” basic issues related to the recirculating aquaculture facilities, daily feeding of fish/frogs housed in the multiple facilities, maintaining appropriate animal health records, ensuring holding room environmental parameters are met/maintained and reporting all facility related problems to supervisor. Mechanical knowledge of pumps and sensors and plumbing skills will be necessary to maintain these recirculating facilities.
Additionally the Aquatics Systems and Services Technician, under direct supervision, may assist investigators with experimental procedures such as breeding and larval rearing, embryos collection, maintenance of required lines/stocks, and other services as required. Environmental responsibilities include cleaning work areas and floors, replacing/re-stocking consumables and inventorying supplies.
Hours: 8:30am- 4:30pm, Saturday to Wednesday (Off Thursday/Friday). Schedule may vary and could include overtime, as well as holidays.
- High School or GED with AALAS Certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level (or higher) or Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in life or Natural Sciences required
- Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in marine biology or aquaculture preferred
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the care of laboratory animals or aquatic species required Certification in Aquaculture or Aquatic Management and Care highly preferred
Please Note: Potential exposure to needles or other sharp instruments, dirt, and hot and humid surroundings. Potential exposure to infectious agents, toxic chemicals, and electrical hazards. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb and work from ladders and platforms.
