New England Cancer Specialists has an open full-time Oncology Infusion Nurse position in our Brunswick Office. The Oncology Infusion Nurse is a critical part of a fast paced outpatient Treatment Room, dedicated to direct patient care for our Hematology/Oncology patients requiring infusion services. Will administer chemotherapy, biotherapy and immunotherapy drugs per policy and procedure Collaborate with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in carrying out day to day aspects of clinical operations as part of a team. Will communicate issues to the appropriate Charge Nurse or practice Nurse Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Draw blood from ports, central lines, and peripheral IV access. Perform other procedures as needed.
Provide patient education regarding various therapies.
Assist physicians; conduct patient assessments.
Follows established oncology protocols to maintain a clean and safe working environment. Safeguards self and others against the hazards of toxic drugs, disposes of hazardous waste according to approved protocol.
Initiate and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol.
Coordinate patient care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health care providers.
Maintain patient care standards and assures that patient care functions, such as assessment, treatment and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in-services and continuing education programs, national and regional professional organizations and community sponsored programs specific to Oncology and Hematology.
Provide recommendations on practice clinical policies and processes to practice Directors.
Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
Travel: Minimal. Might need to travel to other locations occasionally, on an as needed basis for coverage.
Weekends: Occasional, these positions will participate with other nurses in the weekend urgent care coverage. Candidates may also elect to have weekend regular hours.
Bachelor degree in Nursing required. Licensed Nurse within State of Maine required.
ONS Chemotherapy & Bio-therapy Certification required, or have ability to get certification within one year of employment.
Hematology/Oncology experience required.
2 - 5 years nursing experience, one year of Chemotherapy/Oncology nursing experience preferred
