Description Stanford University is seeking a Project Manager to lead and administer programs or functions under minimal supervision for the Stanford Anesthesia Informatics and Media (AIM) Lab. The School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine is one of the three largest departments in the School of Medicine. The Department has maintained significant clinical growth over the last decade, and includes 155 faculty and over 100 clinical FTE, as well as more than 200 residents, fellows, administrative and research staff. The growth of the department has resulted in expansion of educational events and programs, international conferences, various conferences within the US, and multiple educational courses.
The AIM Lab Project Manager reports to the Director of the AIM Lab and works in collaboration with academic medical education specialists within and outside the Department of Anesthesia. The Manager is a part of an innovative team designed to enhance the professional development and medical education of medical students and anesthesiologists at Stanford University.
Projects at the AIM Lab span education, clinical informatics, and mobile computing in medicine, all aiming to innovate user-centered solutions to healthcare IT. The work done by AIM Lab has been honored by funding and awards from the Agency for Healthcare Research Quality, IARS, Society for Technology in Anesthesia, and Medicine 2.0, among others.
The AIM Lab Project Manager provides leadership for several multi-institutional blended and online learning programs, including the START program, ImPRINT program, and STARTprep program (please see the AIM lab website for additional information about these innovative programs, http://aim.stanford.edu). The Manager initiates and leads projects to develop innovative uses of technology for research, student learning and/or community building.
The Manager supervises the technology assistant(s) for these programs, ensuring effective and timely coordinating of all sessions and administering of courses. Responsibilities also include supervision of recording lectures given in the Department of Anesthesia for online viewing and the administration of the department iPad program that provides medical students and resident learners with iPads for educational use.
The incumbent will provide leadership for using technology in teaching, learning, community building and/or research. Oversee and/or provide assistance in the direct integration of technology into course curricula, extra-curricular or co-curricular learning, and/or research projects. Work with faculty on the design, development and implementation of content used in traditional on-campus classes or blended and online courses. Assist with the planning and conducting research on emerging technologies for use in an academic setting.
The Project/Lab Manager is responsible for lab compliance with IT policies, for renewal of contracts and coordination of purchases of major educational equipment and services for the AIM Lab. Responsibilities also include interpretation, implementation, and assurance that the AIM Lab complies with all Stanford policies related to online course development. This includes development and execution of copyright/IP agreements for multi-institutional courses and collaboration with the Office of the Vice Provost for Online Learning.
The Project/Lab Manager represents the AIM Lab to partners across Stanford University, including Continuing Medical Education Office, Vice Provost for Online Learning; Office of the General Counsel, Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Education, and others; also represents the AIM Labs business and academic operations beyond Stanford to other academic institutions as well as corporations.

- Lead the planning and operations for functions or programs that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise. Manage multiple projects in the Anesthesia Informatics & Media (AIM) Lab. This includes Learnly program (a collection of courses and resources for anesthesia learning--a one-year curriculum designed to provide CA-1 residents with competency in the anesthesia basic sciences), research projects, educational courses, and online courses.
- Evaluate programs, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions that may include changes to programs, policies and procedures. Manage evaluation of programs, including surveys from participants, and implement changes when needed.
- Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
- Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school.
- Represents the program or function at the university level and/or to external constituencies. Represents the Lab/Department to other SU departments such as VP for Online Learning, GSB, Sch. of Engr., and IRB. Also manages programs involving international collaborators.
- Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance. Works closely with the Director of the AIM Lab on strategic planning for the Lab and regarding new programs; has a key role in developing relationships with others in the Dept., as well as collaborators and staff in other institutions; works closely with the IRB regarding compliance.
- May development and/or oversee budgets, manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting. Responsible for monitoring budget and works closely with the Finance group; will analyze staffing needs/costs, and budget reporting.
- Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
- May direct and/or supervise staff. Supervisor for 5-10 staff; works closely with the Director to address staffing needs.
Qualifications Desired Qualifications:
- Prefer Masters degree in related filed.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Supervisory experience and ability to effectively lead project teams
- Experience providing technical training in group and individualized sessions.
- Intermediate skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher.
- Demonstrated skill/knowledge in the use of Adobe Creative Suite applications, including, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
- Demonstrated skill/knowledge in the use of the Moodle, WordPress, OpenEdX or similar learning management systems and MOOC platforms.
- Knowledge of educational applications of social media.
- Experience in educational theories, including instructional systems design, and adult learning theory.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse audience of faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in a positive manner with others.
Education & Experience (Required):
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
