History of Art and Visual Culture
Full-Time, Critical Review Track (similar to tenure track)
The Department of History of Art and Visual Culture at the Rhode Island School of Design invites applications from qualified candidates for a full time, one year term appointment (visiting assistant professor) position in African Art to commence September 2017.

Required Qualifications :
Familiarity with current theoretical discourses in the field of African Art; relevant teaching experience beyond the TA; evidence of scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals and a PhD in African Art are required.
Our department embraces diverse critical perspectives, which will equip the next generation of artists and designers with the historical, analytical, and theoretical tools needed for navigating the complexities of our world.
Rhode Island School of Design is an undergraduate and graduate college of art and design with approximately 2,400 graduate and undergraduate students.

Faculty Responsibilities :
This is a one year opportunity where responsibilities include teaching six courses a year; participation in team-taught Introduction to History of Art and Visual Culture; teaching specialized courses and advanced seminars in candidate's area of expertise; student advisement and supervision of undergraduate and graduate projects; service on college committees. There are opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with studio areas and with the RISD Museum of Art.
