About the Department
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations drives the fundraising and alumni relations activities of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
The Associate Director of Development & Alumni Relations Communications is responsible for developing, managing and delivering a comprehensive strategy for communications with donors and alumni. The Associate Director reports to the Sr. Director of Stewardship & Development Operations and works closely with the Ross Development & Alumni Relations management team to create compelling messaging aligned with the Ross strategic plan.
The Associate Director supervises the Development & Alumni Relations Communications team.
Communications Strategy and Management
> Create, implement and evaluate a comprehensive, integrated communications strategy directed at all levels of donors and alumni, in collaboration with the Ross Development leadership team.
> Design, develop, edit and disseminate high-quality, compelling and customized communications content with high visibility, based on organizational and user needs.
> Identify appropriate delivery methods such as digital and print presentations, videos, web content, targeted emails, electronic newsletters and social media for stewardship and fundraising materials.
> Oversee Development communication projects of varying complexity to ensure accuracy, timeliness, consistency and high quality standards are achieved.
> Create stewardship reports for endowed and expendable funds by conducting research and interviewing faculty, staff and students to compose appropriate and compelling content, including financial status of funds and use/recipient information.
> Lead efforts to create direct mail solicitations, alumni relations communications, funding and gift proposals, event collateral and other Development correspondence.
> Create donor centric event materials, including programs and other collateral materials.
> In coordination with the Ross Development & Alumni Relations management team and Ross Marketing & Communications, develop and maintain a detailed, interactive Donor and Alumni Relations website.
> Develop communications for the dean including talking points, speeches and written communications.
> Develop the annual communications budget. Ensure compliance with budget and all applicable financial and development policies, procedures and requirements.
> Other duties as assigned.
> Manage the day-to-day operations of the Development and Alumni Relations Communications team and program.
> Select, supervise, develop and evaluate assigned staff; establish and model performance expectations and standards to foster a positive, high-service, and innovative culture. Provide leadership for the training and motivation of staff in order to make full use of individual capabilities and to meet the unit's growth and demands.
> Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, marketing, public relations or communications, and at least 5 years of related experience in development, donor relations, alumni relations or a comparable field with progressively increased responsibility, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
> Project management experience and excellent problem solving skills required.
> Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and presentation.
> Must possess strong communications skills.
> Superior organizational and customer service orientation.
> Successful demonstration of initiative, team orientation and leadership skills.
> Experience with publishing software to create professionally published reports.
> Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, with the capability to master new software applications and technologies, including database management.
>Previous experience in the following areas is strongly preferred: higher education and logistics
>Knowledge of University systems, policies and procedures
