The Medical Laboratory Assistant (per diem) logs into the LIS patient demographic data, specimen collection information and test orders. Transports, labels, processes or prepares, distributes, preserves and stores patient specimens. Operates and maintains selected laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, cell washers, balances or tissue processors. Attends to routine operational and support functions such as preparing solutions/reagents, stocking supplies, disposing of specimens, cleaning and sterilizing glassware or maintaining and storing records. Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements: High school diploma or its equivalent. One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, including familiarity with laboratory information systems, preferred. Appropriate interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers of the Medical Center. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language. Experience: One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience, including familiarity with laboratory information systems, preferred. Physical Demands: (e.g., lifting, standing, walking) Frequent sitting or standing, occasional walking and bending, occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds for distances to 10 feet. Responsiveness to auditory alarms and communications devices including: telephones, beepers, fire alarms, mechanical failure alarms. Visual acuity acceptable for performing duties of this position. Sufficient mobility to access equipment, supplies and instruments.
