Information Technology Services (ITS) makes it easier for students, faculty, and staff to learn, research, teach, and work by providing great service and innovative information technology solutions. Under limited supervision, the Technical Architect supports the ITS Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) group and their interface with other campus systems and services; provides system analysis, modification, maintenance, design, installation, and administration functions and supports campus technical staff on the use of these systems. EIS is comprised of the Servers team and the Data Center team. This position also maintains and supports assigned systems to ensure system availability, integrity, and reliability. The technical architect combines autonomy with team and manager support to create and maintain enterprise infrastructure objectives for all environments, across multiple hardware and software platforms on premise and cloud-based, while influencing the broad direction of enterprise level infrastructure solutions and services for the organization. We currently utilize on-premise and Amazon Web Services to host services for the campus and are interested in candidates with strong AWS/cloud experience. This position will play a pivotal role in the transition planning and implementation. In addition, this position supports DevOps practices in an agile work management environment.
Working with the manager and staff of the Enterprise Infrastructure Services group and peer technical architects across ITS, the technical architect is a bridge between service and technology and is responsible the technical execution to meet service requirements.
The expert level works almost completely independently on the most complex problems and work assignments. Incumbents at this level possess an advanced and comprehensive knowledge of the technical specialty and a working knowledge of related specialties and are able to apply this extensive expertise as a generalist or specialist. Experts are proactive and understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and are able to work across ITS to develop solutions that combine information and ideas in new, unprecedented ways. Incumbents at this level are capable of leading teams and implementation efforts for assigned projects using advanced communication and listening skills.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of required education on a year-for-year basis)
Advanced knowledge of and expertise in enterprise level infrastructure services.
Basic knowledge of Network Operations Center fundamentals.
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience working in a hybrid cloud environment.
Experience installing and using system monitoring and performance tools in a large-scale environment.
Advanced knowledge of and experience with automation tools/languages.
Ability to interface and integrate campus systems within multiple operating environments and platforms.
Working knowledge of and experience with change management principles.
Ability to provide technical leadership, analyze needs, and ensure quality delivery of products and services;
Ability to work with the most advanced campus and CSU users in understanding, analyzing and diagnosing their needs and translating them into technical solutions.
Demonstrated ability to develop project implementation plans and schedules;
Ability to provide technical leadership for the Linux and Windows central server environment along with its supporting technologies.
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience administering a modern virtualized environment
Familiarity with common Windows and Linux application software running in enterprise environment (e.g. Web, File and Database services).
Demonstrated ability with installing and using system configuration tools in a large-scale Enterprise environment (e.g. MS SCCM, Puppet).
Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated experience administering modern operating systems and familiarity with application software running in enterprise environments.
Thorough working knowledge of and experience with network/client/server protocols.
Experience using structured operating system skills in support of enterprise operating systems environments.
Demonstrated ability to plan upgrades to system configuration that improve utilization and reliability based on analysis of application and production requirements.
Demonstrated ability to research and evaluate new operating environments and platforms and their ability to meet future anticipated workload.
Demonstrated experience with working in a collaborative environment.
Ability to use creative problem-solving skills and apply effective technical solutions.
Ability to apply campus information security policy and standards to develop specific security requirements. Ability to apply security models and frameworks to ensure appropriate security is maintained.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver formal and informal documentation, presentations, and training to a variety of end users.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.

General knowledge of requirements for accessibility compliance.
Degree in computer science or related field.
Demonstrated experience with Amazon Web Services.
Experience with physical or virtual firewalls and/or load balancers.
Experience with Enterprise level Active Directory.
Experience with VMWare vSphere technology stack.
Knowledge of Linux Shell Scriptings and/or Microsoft PowerShell
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience with managing an enterprise SAN/NAS environment, its connectivity for Windows, Linux and virtualized operating systems along with modern backup software and SAN replication strategies.
Advanced knowledge of and experience with DevOps principles.
Working knowledge of and experience with ITIL & ITSM principles.
Working knowledge of and experience in lean work management methodologies.
Ability to safely move equipment up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.
This position classification has been defined as exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Must be able to adjust working hours to meet special jobs. Must be able to work occasional overtime or holidays on an as-needed basis.
May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
Must be able to rotate evening, weekend, and holiday "on-call" hours, and be reached in support of production processing.
Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site.
